Could you be our next Treasurer?
Would you like to be part of an exciting PTA team? Would you like to manage the finances for an active PTA with multiple fundraising activities throughout the year, including two fairs, with total annual income in excess of £20,000? Sounds a bit daunting? Its not really, it can be great fun, and you will have a lot of help and support from others who have experience in the role already.
I have spreadsheets that you can use (and improve on!) to help you get started. We have a fabulous bunch of people on the committee and in the school office who are always on hand to provide help and advice. See below for some of the regular tasks involved.
Regular activities
· Collect takings from regular sales, IOUs etc
· Reimburse committee members as and when required by petty cash or cheque
Monthly activities
· Check in with the school office for any mail, cash, invoices etc
· Reconcile the petty cash tin
· Reconcile the bank statement
· Manage different payment platforms including JustGiving*, SumUp and Stripe
· Prepare a monthly income and expenditure report for the FoLS meetings
Annual tasks
· Keep registered details with the Charities Commission up to date
· Submit an annual return to the Charities Commission
· Submit a claim under the Gift Aid Small Donations Scheme (*monthly Gift Aid claims are managed on our behalf by JustGiving)
· Arrange for our accounts to have an independent examination (if required)
· Present a financial report of the years activities at the FoLS AGM
Provide floats and count cash during / after FoLS events
· Work out the number of floats and cash breakdown needed (I have a spreadsheet to help with this)
· During / after big events: count cash with an efficient, well-established group of people to support you
· Pay takings into the bank (again support is available from committee members)
